Common Sense Media

Google Classroom Integration

Guidance on an effective approach to integration with Google Classroom based on live demo accounts and use case walk-throughs.

Challenge

Common Sense Education wanted to make it easier for educators to integrate and distribute their rich collection of comprehensive resources through Google Classroom—a free web service developed by Google for schools that aim to simplify creating, distributing and grading assignments in a paperless way. From this project, Common Sense Education hoped to gain a better understanding of how the Google Classroom API worked from the publisher/provider perspective and strategized about its best uses with the planned updates to the Common Sense Education website.

Solution

To help the client strategize their Google Classroom approach, Clarity provisioned and engineered a Drupal reference implementation demonstrating the more complex form of Google Classroom integration. We created a set of student and educator "demo" accounts to show off the different content types that Common Sense Media could use with the Google Classroom integration. Clarity performed several walk-throughs with the client about both the front- and back-end configuration so that they could fully understand the pros and cons of various approaches in order to facilitate the best possible experience.
