Content Strategy
A comprehensive framework to clarify, reorganize, and document how best to structure, position, and align content to grow the business and meet the needs of educators.

Challenge
Over the last decade Makey Makey has created a prodigious collection of instructional materials to support the use of their open-ended hands-on invention products across all grades. Educators looking to discover and follow a clear pathway to teaching and learning with Makey Makey in their classrooms found it increasingly difficult to navigate and find what they need as the collection grew organically over the years. Recognizing this, Makey Makey sought out our expertise to develop a comprehensive content strategy that reorganizes their content into a consistent structure and format that achieves a balance between prescriptive instructions with concrete examples and open-ended, iterative explorations that embody a constructivist and maker mindset.
Solution
For the content strategy, we started with a series of virtual work sessions to help Makey Makey’s team achieve internal alignment on the overall intent, purpose, and goals for their content library. We clarified the different roles content serves to grow sales and support instruction and identified a set of content types that achieves both. We shared insights into how best to structure, position, and distribute their content as standalone resources, as a premium subscription, and as part of future product bundles. From our work sessions, we also mapped out the actionable elements of a content strategy, including recommendations for market and distribution, for Makey Makey to implement. As a result of our work, educators will more easily discover, find, and use their content, gain confidence in constructivist teaching practices, and move along a continuum from fixed- to fluid-thinking.
