The Math Learning Center

Math at Home

A monthly series of new math activities to support remote learning.

Challenge

Given the sudden need for widespread remote instruction in the spring of 2020, The Math Learning Center wanted to provide meaningful math activities that students and educators could access from home. MLC's needs evolved as it became clear schools would resume primarily online; the materials would need to be more closely aligned to their curriculum, Bridges in Mathematics. They needed a publicly available site, easily accessed and navigated by educators, parents, and students Pre-K through Grade 5. And they needed it in mere months.

Solution

Working alongside MLC's authors and production staff, Clarity developed a website accessible to all educators—not just those using Bridges—with a content management system for uploading activities and resources. Even with the aggressive timetable for developing and launching it, the resulting Math at Home website went live in time for the 2020 school year. Each month on the website, a new set of materials will appear for each grade level, successfully supporting a variety of uses in coordination with the Bridges in Mathematics curriculum sequence. The materials provide instructional activities for both in class and out, for warm-up or virtual educator-led instruction, as well as independent tasks for individuals and groups of students.
