Julia Fischer

Professional Development Strategist
In August 2017, Julia Fischer joined our extended network of alumni.

Julia is life-long learner whose career has been shaped by ongoing learning experiences. Her educational career began as a math and science middle school teacher where she supported efforts to support girls and minorities in Science. That led to Julia being part of a team to produce and share science curriculum for a K-8 district. Creating materials for other educators inspired Julia to be a mentor to new teachers, facilitating professional development. In 2000, Julia began working with state and national professional development organizations to create online courses supporting technology integration and mentoring educatiors in an online community of learners. The following year Julia began working with a university and co-teaching Science and Social Studies methods for students in an Elementary Education Post-back program. Julia moved on from the middle school classroom to a district level position where she oversaw professional development for the educational technology department.

Highlights

For the past decade, Julia has worked as an instructional designer, planning and implementing face-to-face and online learning experiences to meet the professional development needs of school educators and administrators. She is familiar with multiple learning management systems both as an author and as an instructor for multiple clients. Julia uses her strength as a virtual employee to make virtual experiences as authentic as possible: serving as an online community manager helping a pilot community grow to one that is thriving with over 50,000 members. It is important for Julia to stay connected with students and continues to work with pre-service educators facilitating online courses preparing them for their future classroom experiences.
