Demand Increases for Mobile Learning in K-12 Education

Date

Even though iPads are barely old enough to sign up for kindergarten, their use in schools continues to grow dramatically. Their popularity is creating significant demand for the unique blend of expertise in technology and education necessary to create mobile and blended learning solutions that improve teaching and learning. That's why many companies are turning to Clarity Innovations for assistance.

For any other four-year-old, now’s the time to sign up for next year’s Kindergarten. Not so for the iPad and other mobile devices, which have been enthusiastically going to school for years now. And there are no signs of this slowing either; according to a recent Gartner (2013) report, tablet sales are projected to surpass those of laptops and desktops combined next year.

Anticipating this, Clarity Innovations, a Portland-based strategy and development services firm for the K-12 education industry, expanded its product strategy, design and development service offerings to help its clients make the shift to what schools call “mobile learning”. Schools now seek solutions that make learning more engaging and personalized using mobile devices for digital textbooks, interactive instruction and classroom management and productivity tools.

With a background as classroom practitioners and technology analysts, Clarity Innovations has the unique blend of expertise necessary to help publishers, service providers, and hardware and software companies selling into the K-12 education market address the growing “mobile learning” opportunity. Clients are turning to Clarity Innovations to help them define, design, and engineer innovative apps that improve the process and practice of teaching and learning.

In just the last year alone, Clarity Innovations has designed and engineered a dozen apps for various clients on multiple platforms: Apple iOS, Microsoft Windows 8, Google Chrome and for use within a mobile web browser. Among these is a growing collection of apps for the Math Learning Center, a nonprofit publisher of a K-5 elementary math curriculum, Bridges in Mathematics.

“This series of apps developed by Clarity Innovations has provided a great way to engage with our customers and community interested learning math with mobile devices. Their expertise has contributed tremendously to ensuring developmentally appropriate ways to use technology to support students’ learning of math” says Rick Ludeman, President of The Math Learning Center.
