Command option shift, command 6 in type field, click and hold object then click the space bar… just a taste of the language that filled the room at the Indesign Conference in Denver, CO this past November.

InDesign has been the core layout program I have used since 2002 and before that was Quark and Pagemaker. I’m amazed at how far along desktop publishing has come… so much so that there’s a need and demand for a 3-day conference all about InDesign.

Besides print projects (posters, flyers, bookmarks, etc.), I use InDesign for all of our digital publications—interactive PDFs and e-books. One of my primary reasons to attend was to hear the pros speak about EPUB, the International Digital Publishing Forum (IDPF) industry standard. We recently worked on a project that pushed the boundaries of EPUB 3 and wanted to learn best practices for obstacles that arose.

Needless to say, I learned a lot of tips, tricks, shortcuts and best practices from the InDesign experts behind InDesignSecrets.com, InDesign Magazine, and CreativePro.com. It really was “the best “how-to” conference for creative professionals.”
