It has been said that as you get older time moves faster, and this has started out as one of those ‘fast’ years. I can’t believe it is February, so is time flying?
Time and Twitter
I started off this year on my Twitter voyage and although I am not spending the time on it that I did at the start of the year – I have found how it can be useful for me. From following different educational technologist I have learned about presentations, and resources, I took advantage of searching for information via hash tags and had success with the resources I found. I don’t think that I will be one of those people that constantly gives update after update – but I am definitely committed to making the most out of Twitter this year, including how to maximize my time with Twitter.
Time and Online Learning
I am at the end of the third week of the new semester at California State University Fullerton. During these first few weeks’ classes see a lot of transition – late enrollees, students who drop, students who add. By the start of the fourth week your class has stabilized and you start to get into your routines. This is where I remind my new online learners to set aside time to ‘attend’ class. I find that the biggest hurdle for new online learners is planning time for class each week. They think that because they do not have to attend class at a specific time they can complete work whenever. In theory this is good, but you have to set aside time to get work done. A year ago I discovered Remind 101 and have been using it to send short reminders to my students. I believe that the use of this tool contributes to students getting their work completed in a timely manner.
Time and Exploration
I love my new iPad. But there are not enough hours in the day for me to explore, play and research all that I want to, same with new digital tools and resources. I could loose myself for several weeks if I just explored, research and tested apps that were of interest. Because I like to find and use new resources both in work and in teaching I have chosen to set aside at least 30 minutes a day to explore and play. I think that in the long run this exploration time is going make me more aware of the revolving door of resources.
